Alcohol Consumption in Alberta Women of Child Bearing Age

Brief Description: project to (1) describe the prevalence, quantity and frequency of alcohol consumption for women in Alberta at time of conception; and (1) describe the characteristics of women who are more likely to consume any alcohol, and binge drink at time of conception. Methods: (1) focus groups used to define major areas of enquiry; (2) stratified random sample of women selected from Calgary and Edmonton; (3) women contacted within eight months of giving birth to their first child; (4) computer assisted telephone interview; and (5) statistical analysis included frequencies, bivariate analysis, and multiple logistic regression. 1044 women; 74% response rate; 64.6% <35 years of age; and 35.4% >35 years of age
