The Applied Studies in Fetal Alcohol Syndrome/Effects Certificate Program is offered in partnership with the Addictions Foundation of Manitoba, Association of Community Living Manitoba, and the Fetal Alcohol Family Association of Manitoba.

Location: Red River College of Applied Arts, Science and Technology, Winnipeg, Manitoba

Brief Description: Is a program to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitude to work from a strength-based perspective to provide the complex care and structured support required for children, youth, adults and families that are affected by the disability of fetal alcohol syndrome or effects (FAS/FAE.) Study key areas including attitudes and values, understanding and managing behaviour, teaching and learning strategies, family issues, health, and advocacy and teaming. The program consists of 431 hours of theory and 172 hours practicum. Graduates of this program will have the skills to work from a strength-based perspective - focusing on the 'possibles' to assist individuals with FAS/FAE to function optimally. Graduates will be competent to work with individuals with FAS/FAE in areas such as daily living, learning, socializing, and understanding of self, employment and family support.
