Brief Description: Normal sleep is prerequisite for the wellbeing of individuals and has a significant impact on health issues and quality of life.  Children and adolescents with FASD carry a significantly higher risk of developing insufficient sleep (inability falling or staying asleep) and/or frequent awakenings during the night and subsequent complications.  Failure to recognize sleep disturbances can lead to missed diagnoses or neurobehavioural conditions or somatic manifestations.  Pediatric sleep medicine is still a new subspecialty challenging existing medical systems.  Sleep disturbances have been recently recognized as very frequently being due to melatonin deficiency.  Using a novel multidisciplinary focus on sleep disturbances in children with FASD the aim is to describe the burden of sleep disturbances and work out tailored therapeutic interventions using behavioural sleep hygiene and/or melatonin.
