Feasibility Study into Housing for People with FASD

Brief Description:
27 documents relating to homelessness, FASD and housing were reviewed and synthesized. Consultations held with community, including interviews and focus groups with people with FASD, parents of people with FASD, government officials and community based agencies. Over 70 people were interviewed, including eight from outside Regina. Interviews explored the lives of people with FASD in Regina, supports that were needed for independent living, the extent of services currently available, training requirements for staff, and examples of successful housing models and their cost-effectiveness. Statistical snapshot of those with FASD interviewed for the project:
  • Average age 24.2
  • Moved an average 3.2 times/year
  • 100% experienced homelessness
  • 86% were parents
  • 21% had their children living with them
  • 100% of the women had been battered
  • 100% had substance abuse issues
  • 60% had been incarcerated
  • 86% unemployed
