Brief Description: For Ourselves is supported evening crafts and recreation sessions for youth and adults living with FASD in Whitehorse. The aim is reducing isolation, filling leisure time with safe activities, enhancing social skills and developing friendships. We have been running this type of program every winter since 2001 and the number of times a week is dependent on who funds the project each year and how much funding we receive. This year, we have received $54,000.00 from Crime Prevention, Victim Services Yukon and so we have 3 evenings a week running. One is with First Nation Elders around crafts, one is swimming and exercise and one is to go to the movies and all include pick up and delivery back home, meals and a childcare subsidy. Between 15-20 people attend each session and the clients evaluate the program on an ongoing basis and changes are made as needed to meet their needs. We hope to have enough funding left to hold 2 or three day long fishing/hiking camps in the spring. Support staff attending the sessions also report on clients satisfaction and growth that they see happening.
Time Frame: Every winter depending on funding. Previous funders have included Health Canada, Crime Prevention, Community Mobilization Fund
