Lethbridge Community Justice Project: Case Management of Fetal Alcohol, Spectrum Disorder

Brief Description: partnership of service providers created to increase awareness and management of FASD within the criminal justice system. Purpose is to influence change in the criminal justice system through mentorship, education and training about FASD and related effects. Main objective are to:
- influence case management for youth with FASD
- divert youth with FASD from the system, where appropriate
- make recommendations to court
- identify high risk youth and their families and connect them with appropriate services and supports
- provide community and justice system advocacy for families, schools and service partners
Services are provided fee of charge and are voluntary and include preparation of individual case plans, preparation of individualized court plans, provision of referral packages to the justice system; advocacy for youth; police liaison with schools; ensuring that families are linked to appropriate resources and services; monitoring of home placements and daily programs; monitoring of families for siblings who may have FASD
