Start/End Date: April 1, 2006 – March 31 2007
Location: Whitehorse, YK
Description: Based on a 4-year project funded through Justice Canada from 2002 – 2006, which used peer supports for 15-20 women with FASD who had been victimized to reduce such incidents and build their coping skills. Initially this research project was also an attempt to build the skills of the women’s family members and friends to support them, but it soon became obvious that their friends and family members were as disabled and needy as they were. This current project builds on what we learned for this population and is primarily a 1:1 support program for women.
Time Frame: one year funded at present, proposed forever
Kind of Project: The first 4 years were a research project. An outside evaluation of process and outcomes was performed and is available through Justice Canada, National Crime Prevention Center. The current project is an intervention program based on what we learned in the first 4 years.
Population Served: primarily women from Whitehorse, Yukon and Pelly Crossing, Yukon
