Brief Description: Provision of psychological assessment, individual therapy to children, adolescents and adults with FASD; concomitant with supportive counselling to parents, caregivers and siblings.
Provision of therapy to clients with FASD with complicated issues; support services to families; assessments for court, MCFD; qualified at all levels of court as expert witness on FASD assessment and treatment of sexual trauma; has a large client base. Creates an effective mode of communication that works with and for the client. Reviews and investigates early history related to trauma, adoption, prenatal exposures, developmental neurological areas, relates complete history to current behaviour and emotional issues. Reviews parental strategies for behaviour, communication and emotional needs of individual with FASD. Develops an approach to maximize the client’s potential while developing a realistic perspective on their limitations. Creates a relationship with the client with FASD that can buffer the unpredictable complexities of their lives so that the client perceives the therapist as trustworthy, intelligent, fair and a dependable and honourable guide. Liaises with all agencies, physicians, educators, mental health professionals, corrections to establish consistent plans for crisis intervention and long term care.
