Brief Description:
SFSP is a multi-agency pilot program coordinated by Northern Family Health Society, funded by MCFD. Partners include MCFD, Northern Health (Adult Mental Health and Addictions Services), and Intersect Youth and Family Services. Goal is to support parents affected with FASD who are involved with MCFD for reasons related to child protection and to develop an intervention model with these parents. Goal is effective management of environmental features which act as barriers to parents’ adaptive functioning, and the core premise is that environmental accommodations must be made to support parents with FASD. Project has designed a brief questionnaire that screens for cognitive characteristics typical of adults with FASD, along with personal strengths. Project will (1) document tool’s psychometric properties and evaluate its validity against measures of cognitive and adaptive functioning in clientele; (2) evaluate impact of SFSP intervention on community, changes in the knowledge, attitudes and practices of agency workers; and (3) evaluate impact of SFSP on families; changes in family environment, parental confidence, family interactions, safety and child well-being using a multiple case study approach
