Tough Kids and Substance Abuse: a drug awareness program for children and adolescents with ARND, FAS, FAE and cognitive disabilities

Brief Description: Tough Kids and Substance Abuse is a drug and alcohol awareness program specifically targeted to provide information about drugs and alcohol to individuals with FASD, and other cognitive disabilities. The program offers a number of interactive activities that follow a ‘sensory’ approach to teaching about drug and alcohol use. Modules include: the effects of alcohol/drugs on the body, the legal issues related to drugs/alcohol use and safety planning when in situations in which drugs and alcohol are being abused. The program was tested in classrooms in Manitoba on youth with FASD.
