Start/End Date: ongoing

Location: Surrey, BC

Brief Description: Service for women who are pregnant or early parenting (children under 6) who identify needing extra support and who live in Surrey, Delta or White Rock or Langley areas. Children do not have to be in the care of the woman (can be in foster care). Process is open to all women, including those who are actively using substances, have mental health issues, in first stage transitional housing or who are homeless. Wraparound is connected to the Maxxine Wright Place Project. Wraparound is a voluntary process that works to coordinate a women/family’s existing supports and services or to create a circle of support for those without any. It offers a way to create a comprehensive support network with a common agenda. Everyone sits together to work out a realistic action plan to help the client meet her needs. Along with a facilitator, women choose a team of informal and formal supports, usually 4-10 members. Small and large goals identified; women and team work towards them. Plans are adapted to fit the family rather than expecting family to fit the plan. The project is based on strengths of the woman, her team and the larger community. All services are tailored to woman’s values, preference and culture.
