Brief Description: The Youth Works Project is a creative program funded through the Human Resources & Skills Development Canada (HRSDC), that assists youth ages 15-29, who have been formally diagnosed or self-identified with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). This program focuses on helping youth overcome individual obstacles to employment or education. The Program is unique in that it provides youth with a safe and supportive environment in which a long-term journey to discovery can be embarked upon. Throughout this journey youth with FASD learn to:
Recognize individual barriers that affect their quality of life and personal well-being, thereby reducing or eliminating their ability to participate effectively in education or employment situations.
Discover creative solutions to existing problems through identification of personal strengths, advocacy, networking and community involvement.
Receive support and encouragement in implementing solutions through the utilization of one-to-one instruction, role-modeling, and real practice.
Youth are provided with the confidence, skills and information, necessary to improve their life situation, thereby creating a safe space in time and place where individual transformation and growth is possible.
Time Frame: ongoing
