The Canadian Guidelines and the Interdisciplinary Clinical Capacity of Canada to Diagnose Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder - In 2005, the CMAJ published the Fetal alcohol spectrum disorder: Canadian guidelines for diagnosis. The intent of this publication was to encourage a more consistent interdisciplinary team approach and diagnostic procedure for FASD diagnoses. That same year, the Canada FASD Research Network (CanFASD) determined the locations and capacity for interdisciplinary FASD diagnosis across Canada. This paper discusses how successfully these Guidelines have been in bringing consistency to FASD clinical work. J Popul Ther Clin Pharmacol Vol 18(3):e494-e499; October 16, 2011. Use of Psychometric Tools for Evaluating Individuals with FASD: Reaching Consensus - CanFASD has been collaborating with diagnostic clinics to support conducting comprehensive assessments for individuals with FASD. Our Research Network developed a two-phase process to bring together representatives working within diagnostic clinics. During several months of 2007, we focused on the approaches and tools that clinics were using in the diagnostic process. These two reports chronicle the process and outcomes of these sessions.

Key Worker and Parent Support Program Evaluation Reports - The following pdfs are evaluation reports regarding services available through the Ministry of Children and Family Development's (MCFD) Key Worker family support services. Key Workers assist families in understanding FASD by providing education and information specific to the needs of the child and family. They are familiar with community resources, assist families in accessing support, health and education services and are involved in the development of local support services.

These family support services are being reviewed as part of an ongoing three-year evaluation by a contracted evaluation team. Expansion of the FASD support programs will be based on the evaluation results. The following reports are available in pdf format:

First year formative evaluation report and the executive summary.
Second year formative report and the executive summary.
